Assess your finance team's AI readiness

Finance AI Readiness

How ready is your finance team for AI? Check your data, process, review and controls, see where you stand, and get a practical place to start.

Who it's for
Head of FP&A, Controller, FP&A Manager, Finance Systems
When it helps
Leadership wants to use AI in finance, but it is unclear whether data, process and controls can support it.
Before you start
Working knowledge of your finance systems, how data moves between them, how reporting processes run and any AI data policy. No documents or uploads are needed.
What you receive
A score out of 100 across six weighted dimensions, a stage, up to three blockers and three next steps — to choose one priority, name an owner and decide what to check before expanding.
Not suitable when
Not an audit, a peer benchmark or a test of a specific workflow; the result reflects only the answers given.

Useful next steps

Method
  • Self-reported answers are scored across weighted dimensions: Use case clarity (15 points), Data & stack readiness (25 points), Process & models (15 points), Governance & control (20 points), People & operating model (10 points), Execution readiness (15 points).
  • Stages: Ready to scale (80+), Ready to operationalize (65+), Experimenting with constraints (45+), Exploring (25+), Foundation not ready (0+).
Limitations
  • The assessment is a self-reported diagnostic. Read the total score together with the dimension breakdown, identified blockers and action plan. The result reflects the information you provide, and it does not substitute for testing a particular workflow.
  • Use the result to frame a discussion with your team. Confirm material gaps with evidence before changing a live process. The example shown on this page is illustrative and is not a peer benchmark.
How to start

Select Check my AI readiness and answer the assessment questions about your team.

Build a finance AI workflow

AI Finance Workflows

Build your first finance workflow with step-by-step guidance in your preferred AI tool.

Who it's for
FP&A Manager or Analyst
When it helps
Leadership keeps asking for a dashboard, a P&L readout, a monthly report or an explanation of what changed, and you want to try AI on it.
Before you start
An account in the AI tool you choose, plus a 12-month P&L exported to Excel — or use the included sample data.
What you receive
Step-by-step guidance and prompts for one of four outputs, plus a short list of numbers to verify. The output is produced in your own AI tool, not by this site.
Not suitable when
Not for teams that cannot use an external AI tool with finance data, and not a validated or production-ready report.

Choose your output

  • Management dashboard

Turn your P&L into the dashboard leadership keeps asking for.

    Output: An interactive management dashboard.

  • Understand my P&L

Get a plain-English readout of what’s driving performance.

    Output: A plain-language P&L explanation.

  • Monthly management report

Draft your leadership report in one sitting, then refine it.

Output: A monthly management report draft.

  • Find what changed

Rank the biggest movements and the accounts behind them.

Output: A ranked list of this month’s changes.

Method
  • Follow the guide in your chosen AI tool, prepare a source file or use sample data, run the supplied prompts, and check key figures against the source before sharing.
Limitations
  • Not for teams that cannot use an external AI tool with finance data, and not a validated or production-ready report.
  • Files are processed by your chosen AI provider under your account settings, not uploaded to FinanceWorkroom.
How to start

Choose one of the four workflows and select Start building; choose sample data or your own inside the guide.

Find where your team's recurring time goes

Finance Time Waste Calculator

Estimate the hours your finance team reports on recurring manual work — by task, area and work type — with coverage and every assumption shown.

Who it's for
Controller, Accounting Manager, FP&A Manager
When it helps
Recurring close, reporting or forecasting work seems to take more time than expected, and there is no shared estimate of where the hours go.
Before you start
For each recurring task: how often it happens, the active minutes it takes, whether that is per person (and how many people), any extra rework not already counted, and the number of closes per year.
What you receive
Reported hours per period and per year by task, area and work type, with how complete the inputs are and every assumption listed — to choose which recurring work to examine first.
Not suitable when
It measures only the time you report. It does not provide benchmarks, savings, salary-based cost or ROI, and it does not measure time automatically.
Required inputs
  • Task areas to include: Month-End Close, Reporting & variance analysis, Forecasting & cash, Accounts payable invoices, Ad-hoc data requests (starter tasks you can edit, remove or add to).
  • Per task: frequency (per close, week, month or quarter), occurrences per period and active minutes each time.
  • Whether minutes are for the whole team or per person; if per person, how many people.
  • Whether rework is already included in the minutes; if not, extra rework minutes.
  • Closes per year, confirmed by you — never assumed.
Method
  • Period minutes = occurrences × active minutes × people (people only when entered per person).
  • Rework minutes are added only when you say they are not already included; an unanswered rework question counts as zero and is listed as a gap.
  • Annual minutes = (period minutes + rework) × periods per year: your confirmed closes for per-close tasks; 52, 12 or 4 (editable) for weekly, monthly or quarterly tasks.
  • Tasks missing required inputs are excluded from totals and shown in coverage, not estimated.
  • Formula version tw-1.0.
Limitations
  • Results reflect user-reported estimates only, not measured time.
  • No benchmarks, savings estimates, salary inference or ROI.
  • Starter tasks and frequencies are templates to review, not recommendations.
How to start

Start the calculator, choose task areas, review the starter tasks and enter the required estimates.

Compare FP&A software

FP&A Software Finder

Compare FP&A software approaches by Excel fit, planning needs, integrations and implementation effort. Then use the free Finder to build a shortlist that fits your team.

Who it's for
Head of FP&A, FP&A Manager or Analyst, Finance Systems / IT
When it helps
Spreadsheet planning is straining under data collection, versions or consolidation, and the team is considering a planning platform.
Before you start
Your company size, where models live today, the systems you need to connect and who will build and maintain the models.
What you receive
A shortlist of three platforms with the reasons shown — to decide which vendors to evaluate and what to ask in demos.
Not suitable when
Not a substitute for vendor demos, references or a proof of concept; the underlying ratings are not yet independently verified.
Method
  • Answers determine requirement weights; every vendor uses the same fit calculation.
  • fit(d) = rating(d) / 5 if you want more of d = (6 − rating(d)) / 5 if you want less of d score = Σ |weight(d)| × fit(d) / Σ |weight(d)|
Limitations
  • Vendor ratings are simplified 1–5 judgments and are not yet independently verified.
  • Validate shortlisted platforms with real workbooks, demos, references and a proof of concept.
How to start

Choose what you want to improve in the Finder entry, then answer the questions about your planning needs.

Check referral rewards for finance software you use

Referral Rewards Checker

Add the software you use, see which tools have a refer-a-friend program on file, and copy an AI prompt to check the latest offers.

Who it's for
Finance software users
When it helps
You already use finance software and want to check customer refer-a-friend rewards before making an introduction.
Before you start
The finance software you use: search a catalog of 1,051 products, or paste a list separated by commas or new lines (pasted names are kept only when they exactly match a catalog name or alias). Your country, chosen from 13 countries or Other. Optionally, tools you forgot: the checker walks through 8 core finance areas (areas you haven't covered first), with 9 more areas on request.
What you receive
Research status and program details for selected products, plus a copyable AI research prompt with official-source verification steps.
Not suitable when
Results reflect our research at a point in time; referral terms change often. Always confirm on the official page before relying on a reward. We do not confirm your personal eligibility for any program.
Required inputs
  • The finance software you use: search a catalog of 1,051 products, or paste a list separated by commas or new lines (pasted names are kept only when they exactly match a catalog name or alias).
  • Your country, chosen from 13 countries or Other.
  • Optionally, tools you forgot: the checker walks through 8 core finance areas (areas you haven't covered first), with 9 more areas on request.
Method
  • Each selected product is matched by name against our researched list of 30 customer referral programs.
  • A match shows the program as "Confirmed in research" or "Unclear", with the reward, reward type, conditions, how to get your referral link, region and a link to the official page.
  • Products with no match are listed as "Not verified yet". That does not mean no program exists.
  • Country is not used to filter results; it goes into the AI research prompt. Check the region shown for each program.
Limitations
  • Results reflect our research at a point in time; referral terms change often. Always confirm on the official page before relying on a reward.
  • We do not confirm your personal eligibility for any program.
  • Your selections are stored only in this browser; no sign-in is needed.

Explore AI implementation support

Finance AI implementation advisory

Free 30-minute session with a Finance AI FDE, an engineer who is also a finance expert, to find which workflows to automate, what is feasible and the return.

Who it's for
CFO, VP Finance / Head of Finance, Head of FP&A, Controller
When it helps
A recurring workflow such as the close or the reporting pack is a candidate for automation, and the team wants an expert view before committing.
Before you start
One or two recurring workflows in mind and a sense of the systems involved.
What you receive
A free 30-minute advisory session request; a representative contacts you to arrange the time. It supports a decision on whether to start with one workflow.
Not suitable when
Not for general AI education or software selection; we may earn a referral fee if you later work with the team introduced.
Use cases
  • Month-end close automation: Subledger to GL tie-outs, reconciliation prep, close status tracking; human review: Investigating differences, sign-off.
  • Budget variance analysis & reporting: Refreshing actuals, building the pack, drafting commentary; human review: Confirming causes, approving the narrative.
  • 13-week cash forecast: Collecting inputs, refreshing the 13-week view, forecast vs. actuals; human review: Assumptions and timing judgment.
  • AP automation: Invoice coding, PO matching, chasing approvals; human review: Exceptions and payment approval.
  • A solution built around your needs: Your own recurring process: data connections, checks and outputs designed around how your team works; human review: Defining what good looks like, approving the result.
Engagement
  • Scope one workflow. The data it needs, who reviews it, and what done looks like.
  • Build with your data. Connect the sources, build the steps and the checks.
  • Run alongside your process. Side by side with the manual version until the numbers match.
  • Hand over. Documentation, a runbook and training for the people who run it.
Session topics
  • What's worth automating. Your workflows ranked by time saved and effort.
  • What's feasible. With your data, your systems and your controls as they are today.
  • What it would return. Hours back each month, and what stays with your team.
  • What it would take. Scope, timeline and the people involved, before any commitment.
How to start

Describe your workflows and systems in the request form. FinanceWorkRoom contacts you first; submitting a request is not a confirmed booking.

Commercial disclosure

Yes. The session is free and there is no obligation. We may earn a referral fee if you later work with the team we introduce.
